FeMaledictions

Sara, known in certain circles as "sCara," was born and raised in Central Louisiana in March of 1978.

Her parents are both artists. Her mother, Mary, is a retired teacher and primarily taught Art to developmentally-delayed adults and children. She was in charge of the ceramics department, sales from which brought the school added funds. Her distinctive style of painted "portrait eyes" being her signature. She was also commissioned to decorate countless homes with Rosemaling. For pleasure, she worked with Abstracts as well as Oil Paints. Sara's father, Richard, was at the other end of the spectrum when it came to The Arts being completely self-taught. He expressed himself near-exclusively by way of commissioned, large-scale murals.

Sara showed artistic inclinations from a very early age. Every primitive scrawl on up to molded lump was interpreted and analyzed by each parent based on his/her individual definition and concentration. Her mother would usually find merit in the form, but not the content - that usually brought her "wrinkled-up nose face" to the surface. Her father would tell her to not concern herself at all with form. Sara would look from one to the other in ping-pong match fashion, then turn around and do what she felt was right.

As with anyone, Sara's childhood was probably the most formative influence on her worldview and, as an extension thereof, her art. One of her first memories is of watching a cat give birth to and then proceed to eat the kittens. Her Aunt Linda explained to her that the momma kitty could tell that something was wrong with the babies and that this was the kindest thing to do. Sara was approximately three, but this made sense. An earlier, fuzzier, memory is of wanting to go to mommy - who was working on a large picture outside - and falling down the cement steps and making the grass wet with her head.

Sara enjoyed hiding so as to observe. When she wasn't closing her large, wobbly cardboard dollhouse around herself and peeking out of the windows - she was hiding in the middle of circular racks displaying clothing in stores. Her biggest smiles were always brought about by way of panic. Her giggle would always tell on where she was.

She loved reading, collecting the shed skins of locusts, playing with the countless nearly-feral cats that called her neighborhood home and eating ketchup-soaked bread. Her childhood home was very near a charity hospital, three cemeteries, The Red River and a mental institution that allowed the patients to roam free during the day. The mental institution would give a complimentary turkey or ham to anyone bringing them a new client. The grounds were separated from the highway by way of what the locals called "Crazy Lake."

At the age of five, it was discovered that Sara's eyes were very, very weak. The best way to explain the way she technically saw things would be to say that she had 25% of what is considered to be "perfect" vision and no depth perception in her "good" [left] eye and the ability to recognize light from dark with the other eye, with best correction. One surgery at that age was unsuccessful and, meaning well, her mother exposed her to organized religion for the first time by way of an Assembly Of God "Faith Healing" Extravaganza. Sara remembers feeling very uncomfortable in that environment as well as feeling very embarrassed for everyone rolling around, hollering, sweating and crying. Didn't they know how silly they looked?

From that age through her late teens, yearly summer trips to New Orleans were primarily so that medical students could cause her great irritation by way of shining lights in her eyes and mumbling with great seriousness and - after enduring that - getting to have fun by walking around and soaking up what will always be her favorite city.

Sara's love for New Orleans is best summarized by a memory. She remembers being around seven and - while walking down Bourbon Street with her mommy, Uncle Tommy, Aunt Gladys, and horribly-insufferably-annoying cousins Melissa & Michelle - at a time of night too honest for most children, watching a pretty lady wearing only high heels run out of Big Daddy's Bottomless & Topless and beat the ever-loving hell out of a tourist that had been taking photos of her from the street through the glass that had her on display. New Orleans as a Beautiful Woman that will Fuck You Up was firmly implanted in her young mind.

The one thing in her life that Sara listened to well-meaning family members regarding was attending University. She did well academically throughout all of her previous schooling, but her disciplinary record was lacking due to having no patience for people that couldn't just leave her be. She tried the University of New Orleans, then Northwestern State University in Natchitoches and finally Louisiana Tech University [now know as "ULM"] in Ruston, Louisiana. She studied Sociology with an emphasis on Demographics. Technical Writing resonated with her exacting nature. She became extra disenfranchised in 2000, the start of her senior year, having not learned one thing she either wasn't already aware of or couldn't teach herself. She left school, wishing she'd gone the more practical-for-her route of trade school.

2000 also saw her move to Stoughton, Wisconsin. The summer of 2001, she began what is still her "real job," providing in-home care for developmentally-delayed adults. A reason she enjoys this work being that the clients take more pride in what they can do than most supposedly "able-bodied" individuals.

In 2004, she began making solid perfumes. Her company, FeMaledictions, was officially founded on the Spring Equinox of that year. During the summer of 2004, she joined The Church Of Satan. She was given The Title of Witch II° by the Church of Satan in 2007.

During the summer of 2006, a random standard eye exam led to a series of successful eye surgeries finished up in the Summer of 2007, thanks to which Sara can now see very well. Being one way for the first 29 years of her life, she still walks most everywhere [weather permitting] and is more than a bit uneasy internally when every thing isn't in its proper place.

Late 2007 through New Year's Eve of 2008 saw FeMaledictions as a brick & mortar store in Stoughton, Wisconsin. Though it did well, Sara closed it due to being self-realized enough to know she's much too "Soup-Naziesque" to actually deal with the public. Other than online, her creations can also be acquired when she's built up the patience-reserve necessary for her to vend at Outsider Art events.

Sara, her Mr. Diavolo [Dichotomy, FKSHVL] and their furkids, Beast & Kali recently moved to Fitchburg, Wisconsin [Madison's West Side]. After unpacking, she'll have a great deal of updating to do.
